Love it or hate it, Range Rover has finally built an electric version of its flagship SUV, and it’s rated for up to 333 miles of range by the EPA. Order books are now open, with the Range Rover Electric starting at $138,000 in the US.
Built alongside the gas and hybrid models at the company’s Solihull, UK, plant, it marks the first battery-powered Range Rover in the nameplate’s 56-year history. Power comes from two permanent-magnet motors, one on each axle, producing a combined 542 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. That torque figure is higher than any Range Rover before it, regardless of powertrain.
The electric SUV can hit 60 miles per hour in as little as 4.3 seconds and accelerate from 50 to 75 mph in just 2.7 seconds. In other words, Range Rover says it delivers V8-level performance without burning a drop of gasoline.

Power, Range And Charging
The motors are powered by a double-stacked 118.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery made up of 344 prismatic cells. It uses an 800-volt architecture with split-charging capability. Plugged into a 350-kilowatt public DC fast charger, Range Rover says the battery can go from 10 to 80 percent in around 22 minutes. At peak charging speed, 10 minutes can add about 125 miles of range.
Off-road capability is still a big part of the package, of course. Range Rover’s Integrated Traction Management system can adjust motor speed in just 50 milliseconds, which the company says is roughly 100 times faster than a combustion-engine system can react to wheel slip. An accompanying Intelligent Driveline Dynamics system can send anywhere from 0 to 100 percent of the available rear torque to help keep the SUV planted.
There’s also a Single Pedal mode that lets the driver crawl up a 33-degree slope or tackle a 45-degree descent using just the accelerator. And despite going electric, the Range Rover can still wade through up to 35 inches of water. Matt Becker, JLR’s Vehicle Engineering Director, says the goal was to make sure the electric Range Rover felt just as capable on the road as it does off it:
‘From challenging low-grip and rough terrain to smooth, high-speed roads, it remains incredibly composed and refined, with a real sense of control and confidence.’

How The Trims Shake Out
The Range Rover Electric shares its basic architecture with the brand’s mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and gas-powered models, all of which are built on the same Solihull production line. JLR has retrained 9,000 workers at the plant for electrification, with another 1,500 employees receiving training elsewhere across England’s West Midlands.
Battery packs and electric drive units are built at JLR’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton, alongside the company’s combustion engines. JLR calls it the largest facility of its kind in the UK.
Buyers can order the Range Rover Electric in either short- or long-wheelbase form, with SE, Autobiography, SV, SV Black, and SV Ultra trims available. The First Edition adds a choice of Belgravia Green, Santorini Black, or Varesine Blue paint, along with Light Cloud Ultrafabrics and Kvadrat interior trim.
The battery and electric motors are covered by an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty. North American buyers also get access to Tesla’s Supercharger network thanks to built-in NACS compatibility, while an optional home charger is available for those who want to charge at home.
