The teenage winger enjoyed the visitors’ first opening as his left-footed shot was denied by Sam Johnstone at the near post after being teed up by Alexis Mac Allister.
But the Reds had to wait until early in the second half to break the deadlock as vice-captain Andy Robertson produced a stunning strike from outside the penalty area.
Mohamed Salah doubled the lead by rifling Robertson’s cutback to the far post into the roof of the net which was initially ruled offside before being overturned by VAR.
The visitors added a third courtesy of Curtis Jones’ driving run and finish which put the tie firmly beyond the Premier League strugglers’ reach in the 74th minute.
Hwang Hee-chan notched a consolation for the Old Gold at the start of four minutes’ added time when he raced ahead of Dominik Szoboszlai and cut a low finish.
