Football is in mourning after the death of Mircea Lucescu was confirmed this April 7 in Bucharest. The legendary Romanian coach was unable to recover from the heart attack he suffered last Thursday during a training session with his national team. Despite undergoing surgery to have a defibrillator implanted, news of his passing has shocked the beautiful game, to which he devoted more than five decades of innovation and success.

A legendary career and record-breaking achievements

Lucescu leaves this life as the third-most decorated manager in history with 35 titles, a tally surpassed only by Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola. From his beginnings in Hunedoara to his golden era at Shakhtar Donetsk, he transformed every club he touched. His honors include memorable milestones, such as the UEFA Super Cup won against Real Madrid with Galatasaray.
