🔝 Gustavo Gómez becomes the top-scoring defender in Libertadores history

Gustavo Gómez continues to write his name in the history of Palmeiras and the Libertadores.

With the goal scored against Universitario, from Peru, the Paraguayan reached 13 goals in the competition, tying the Chilean Rubén Espinoza as the defender with the most goals in the history of the Libertadores.

But that’s not all. The alviverde captain also isolated himself as the defender with the most goals in the history of Palmeiras, with 40 balls in the net, leaving behind legendary names like Luís Pereira and Cléber.

In the main club tournament on the continent, Gustavo Gómez is the third top scorer of the club, behind only Rony (21) and Raphael Veiga (17).

And in the 21st century, the 32-year-old Paraguayan is already the 9th top scorer of the Verdão, even being a defender, behind Valdívia (41 goals), Gustavo Scarpa (44 goals), Flaco López (47 goals), Vagner Love (54 goals), Willian Bigode (66 goals), Rony (70 goals), Dudu (88 goals) and Raphael Veiga (105 goals).
