Liverpool are enjoying a season of dreams right now, and could soon have their hands on their first piece of silverware with the EFL Cup final just over two weeks away.

Having won it in two of the last three seasons, they’ll be confident, and if it goes to penalties, they should be well prepared.

In 2022, the Reds beat Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in both domestic cup finals on penalties, starting with the EFL Cup on this day exactly three years ago.

After 120 minutes, the game was goalless, leading to a marathon 21 spot kicks before Blues keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga blasted over to send the cup to Anfield.

Caoimhín Kelleher was the hero that day, and started in last year’s final win too, which also came over Chelsea. He’ll be hoping to get the nod against Newcastle on March 16.

To add to the good omens, the runaway league leaders’ comfortable win over the Magpies on Wednesday also bodes well for their hopes.
