The 50-year-old coach was dismissed after this Sunday’s (21) classic match.

The decision was officially made by Alessandro Barcellos, the president of Internacional, in a statement:

“(…) We have made the decision together, with the football department and the management board, for the dismissal of the technical commission, of Roger (Machado) and his assistants“.

Roger was officially appointed on July 18 of last year, after his then Juventude had been the nemesis of Inter in the Gauchão and Copa do Brasil.

Inter ended 2024 on a high after a great surge in the Brasileirão – which secured them a place in the Libertadores.

And the start of this season saw the long-awaited end of the drought in the Gaúcho Championship with the title over Grêmio, who were seeking an unprecedented eighth consecutive title.

The campaign in the Brasileirão never excited. Colorado is, with 27 points in 23 games, currently in 13th place.

Previously, Inter had been eliminated in the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil and Libertadores by Fluminense and Flamengo, respectively.

2025 with Roger had 21 victories (nine of them in the Gauchão), 12 draws, and 14 losses in 47 matches.

There were only two victories in the last 12 games across all competitions.

The overall record (since last year) is 74 matches, with 34 victories, 20 draws, and 20 losses. A performance of 54.9%

Roger was the fourth longest-serving coach at the helm of a Serie A team.

A position now held by Filipe Luís, who has been managing Flamengo since 30/09/2024.

Abel Ferreira (Palmeiras – 30/10/2020), Rogério Ceni (Bahia – 09/09/2023) and Léo Condé (Ceará – 30/06/2024) are the top three.
